“Lotus Land”

Lotus land,
the land of “I can”
sway in rhythm like trees of palm against the sand.
warm and sweet
bathe your feet
in the liquid off the street, oozing moisture like rippled blue silk.
overlook the brown
with its ups and its downs
it’ll tear you to the ground floor if you don’t.
release ties like the wind
feel hope rise like it’s a sin
count your blessings, then forget where you’ve been.
in the whisper of the palms
you’ll hear the ocean’s song
come the tide, they might lean the other way.
scattered droplets on the beach
scattered dreams out of reach
illusion becomes delusion anyway.
the sea will claim you as its own
then cover you with foam
and you’ll never stop to think of home again.
but take a lesson from the coast
every dream has its host
and pleasure can only take so many blokes.
